The ETX concept is an off the shelf System-on-Module (SOM) integrating all the core components such as CPU, Memory and associated chip set, (re)mountable on an application specific baseboard.

Baseboard design can incorporate as little or as much I/O as the application demands thus providing the optimum embedded arrangement by saving costs on unwanted headers, sockets and cables yet achieving a form factor which precisely matches the application.

The baseboard design can accommodate the clients unique circuitry and also provide additional features not found on the ETX module such as firewire, CAN Bus or Gigabit Ethernet if required.

Four ruggedised connectors provide the necessary baseboard interface carrying all the I/O signals to and from the ETX module.

The first ETX offering from DSL comprises the remarkable AMD Geode GX533 for which AMD has given an undertaking of 5 year availability.

The CPU itself is very low powered, consuming only 1.1W at 400MHz whilst equalling the performance of the VIA Eden 533MHz CPU. Unlike similar CPU's however, the AMD GX2 requires no cooling fans or cumbersome heat sinks for consistent operation across the temperature range.

Four USB ports provide almost endless possibilities for peripheral expansion whilst an AC'97 Audio Codec provides opportunities for multimedia applications. Two serial, IDE and Keyboard and Mouse complete the offering.

Underpinning the ETX concept is DSL's "Design to Order" service, whereby application specific motherboard prototypes will normally be delivered within 30 days from design specification signoff. Alternatively DSL provides a design support pack such that clients can undertake the motherboard design themselves should they wish.

In conclusion the ETX concept provides an economic, fast time to market, application specific solution whilst providing a performance migration path should the need arise later in the product life cycle.

The PPC-740X is fully built to client spec, with options such as CPU, RAM & Storage upgrades for a small additional cost. The unit can be provided with a variety of H.D.D's, or for applications where reliability is particularly important, entirely flash based. Additional functionality is effortlessly achieved by a CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD-RW & upto 3 PCI slot expansion.

Turn-key functionality can be easily achieved by our OS pre-installation service, including Windows XP Professional (Home Edition also available), or most recently with Windows XP Embedded (customised for no additional charge to client requirements). For production, we are able to pre-install client application code so the unit is truly ready to ship from the box! (Company branding also available).
