InsydeH2O is a product family developed using modern software engineering technology, enabling ODMs and OEMs to substantially improve their efficiency in supporting new hardware designs. This product line is the first system software that provides the "Hardware-2-Operating System" bridge using a modern software architecture, designed to have an extremely long useful life.
Unlike traditional 16-bit real mode BIOS technology, InsydeH2O BIOS Replacement Drivers run in 32-bit flat mode. Yet, despite the modern software technologies, the InsydeH2O Compatibility Support Module (CSM) still provides all necessary backwards compatibility, including the run-time BIOS interface, support for option ROMs, and USB legacy features. Through InsydeH2O's CSM, this support for continued use of standard operating systems and tools can help ease a gradual transition from legacy to UEFI.
This product line is CPU and chipset technology neutral, allowing PC makers to select the most appropriate hardware components to meet their market requirements. Additionally, the same source code can be used to develop and then deploy across different segments from notebooks to desktops to servers, including those with different instruction sets and silicon components.
InsydeH2O is a fully WHQL-compliant firmware solution that employs a true modular architecture, is written in C code, and uses a driver model that enables a wide range of software engineers to be quickly productive. These benefits can facilitate platform design innovation as well as faster time-to-market.
Why choose the InsydeH2O BIOS?
- Standard architectural interfaces via open specifications -- not proprietary to Intel, Insyde or anyone
- Written in “C” -- maximize engineering productivity
- Reusable S/W modules -- shortened project development time, easier to debug
- More features in firmware -- better support for pre-boot applications
- Standardised architecture -- accelerates platform innovation
- There is a close Alignment to Intel Embedded Silicon Roadmap, as well as Framework support for non-Intel silicon
Insyde, Intel and other leaders are committed to The Framework. InsydeH2O finally brings true modularity, driver model, and coding discipline to the BIOS.
